Ask For The Holy Spirit 2

Asking for the Holy Spirit is asking for God*s help against our flesh and a multitude of other anti-God forces from the world, the flesh and the Devil. We are all in desperate need of His help. He is more powerful than the world, our flesh and the Devil. Without Him we are not.

Ephesians 5:18: And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Romans 8:4: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Galatians 5:16: This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

The Holy Spirit will help us to stop doing these things:

Galatians 5:19-21: Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

The Holy Spirit will give us these things:

Galatians 5:22-25: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ*s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

When you are filled with the Spirit you will be successfully ceasing from sin and you will be bearing His good fruit.

John 16:8: And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

The Holy Spirit does the same things for a believer in the world that He does for the world. If a believer asks for the Holy Spirit, he will be asking for the fruit of the Spirit and all of His influences. He will be asking for reproof for sin, righteousness and judgement. He will want to know about His sin, so that he might confess it. He will want to know and obey God*s righteous will. And he will understand that he has become a child of God, has been forgiven and will not suffer the judgment or the condemnation that all men deserve.

Romans 8:16: The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

Romans 8:1: There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

We cannot even pray, speak to ourselves, sing to the Lord, praise Him or give thanks to Him as God wants us to without the Holy Spirit. Neither will we be able to defeat the external forces the world and the Devil will throw at us without the powerful help of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:26: Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Ephesians 5:18-20: And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Ephesians 6:12: For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

2 Corinthians 10:4: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
